Thank you for choosing Ancient's Arts Tattoo & Okie's Piercing as your tattoo studio. This is a modern studio that
meets or exceeds all sterilization standards for the State of Washington.
You have just received a quality tattoo and probably want to know exactly what you can do to keep your tattoo
looking good for life. We have already assisted you by cleaning, applying a protective ointment and bandaging your
your tattoo. It is in your best interest to keep this bandage on for at least 4 hours but no longer than 24 hours
In order for you to safely remove your bandage, with out it sticking to your skin, it is recommended; that you soak
the area with cold water until the gauze loosens. Once your tattoo is exposed wash it carefully in cold water,
gently applying mild soap with fingers to remove all surface blood. Rinse with cold water, and then pat dry with a
clean towel and air dry for 15 minutes. To prevent damage to your tattoo do not use antibacterial soap or a wash
cloth during the healing process.
For the next 3 weeks, while your tattoo is healing, avoid exposing it to water for prolonged periods of time.
Showers are very good and are encouraged, but try to minimize the time you are in the shower. Baths, hot tubs,
surfing, swimming, and playing in mud puddles are just some activities that will ruin your tattoo if done during
the first 3 weeks.
After showering and 1-2 times a day you should gently apply a thin a layer of unscented lotion, A&D ointment or
Aquaphor sparingly, less is better. Repeat this process for at least 7 to 10 days or until tattoo is completely
healed. If you notice colors seeping out of the skin, discontinue use, wash your tattoo, pat dry and consult your
tattoo artist.
Your new tattoo may start to scab and peel after 5-14 days. DO NOT pick or peel the skin away, let it fall off
naturally. Fresh skin will soon replace the dead skin. Colors may appear to fade during this process but will return when
healing is completed.
Your new tattoo has an extreme phobia of the sun. Exposure to the sun is the major cause of tattoo fading;
always use sun block (at least SPF - 30 that provides UVA an UVB protection).
For the first 3 weeks after you get your tattoo DO NOT use sun screen on your tattoo or expose the tattoo
to the sun or tanning beds.
Most importantly, if you are willing to follow
your friend's advice please make sure that they are willing to pay for any touch-up work, and get that in writing.
